Talking to a therapist
Therapy can be a helpful option as you struggle with emotional and physical aftermaths of the incident. Talking about it with a trained professional can help.
Counsellor, Psychologist or Psychiatrist - who do I talk to?
A Counsellor is someone with a BA and MA in psychology, while a Clinical Psychologist has an additional research degree like an MPhil. They use "talk therapy", also called psychotherapy, rather than medicines to help us navigate difficult life situations. A Psychiatrist on the other hand is a doctor with an MBBS and an MD or other post-graduate degree. They can provide prescriptions and medications.
Finding the right professional for you
Finding a good therapist can be hard, especially because we have very few trained and licensed mental health professionals in India. Here are some websites and databases where you can find therapists in your city
The Live Love Laugh Foundation - Find a Therapist. Provides a database of therapists in several states. https://thelivelovelaughfoundation.org/therapist.html
Practo.com - Choose your city and search for "psychotherapists" or "psychiatrists" https://www.practo.com/doctors
Online therapy
If in-person therapy is not for you, you can speak to someone online from the comfort of your own home.
ePsyClinic. Offers online sessions with licensed therapists. https://iwill.epsyclinic.com/
BetterLFY. Offers online sessions with licensed therapists.
7Cups. Offers free chat support from volunteer "active listeners" and paid options for online therapy. https://www.7cups.com/
